June 15 – Stage 2 of Reopening Begins, Other News, Case Count Report

Stage 2 of State’s Reopening Plan Starts Today, June 15

New Jersey is entering Stage 2 of its restart and recovery plan today, Monday, June 15 with the return of outdoor dining and in-person retail shopping.

NJ Motor Vehicle Agencies reopened today with new safety protocols. On Monday, June 22, beauty salons, nail salons, barber shops, spas, tanning salons, and massage parlors can reopen.  Public pools and private bathing facilities may also open on June 22.

In the period to follow, specific dates will be given for gyms and health clubs to be allowed to reopen.

Outdoor gathering limits have been increased to 100 and indoor groups limited to lesser of 50 or 25% of the capacity of the room, with proper social distancing precautions. See News Bulletin and Executive Order #152.

This is a phased-in restart, prioritizing the public’s health. The Montgomery Health Dept. stresses that customers and businesses should adhere to the NJ Department of Health guidance including social distancing and wearing masks.

Governor Phil Murphy urged the use of wise precaution, saying, “Let’s use common sense for the common good. Only a successful Stage 2 can get us to Stage 3.”

Stage 2 is ‘Additional activities permitted that can be more easily safeguarded’ and Stage 3 is defined as ‘Most activities allowed with safeguarding.’

Governor Murphy cited reduced pressure currently on the health care system and said key metrics have all dropped meaningfully from the peak.

The state has ramped-up its testing capabilities and New Jersey has the ability to conduct at least 20,000 tests per day. With increased testing there will be an increased focus on contact tracing.

Day care centers also reopen today.  Outdoor, non-contact organized sports can resume June 22, and youth day camps can operate beginning July 6, all with restrictions.
