MontgomeryTogether.us is for US!
Montgomery Township municipality and schools have just launched a new COVID-19 community website called MontgomeryTogether.us. Please check it out and share about it with others. The purpose is to help our community grow in strength and unity, even during this challenging time. The website includes useful info and recommended local resources, community events happening virtually, and how to stay connected. It will be continually updated so check back frequently.
There is something for everyone in sections: Staying Together, How to Help, Finding Help, Latest Info, Schools, and Business Community. Find ideas on staying healthy while staying at home. Learn ways to help and what others are doing in the community. Find out which businesses are open. Take a virtual trip to a famous museum or world heritage site! Most importantly, we hope this site will help us all stay connected, even while we all must stand apart. We are #MontgomeryTogether.
Make Montgomery #1 – The Census Challenge
We have reached an important milestone in the 2020 Census: More than half of the households in our nation have responded – that’s nearly 80 million responses!
Montgomery right now has a 67.3 % response rate. That is better than the average town in New Jersey, at 56.3%, but we need to do better! Ten years ago, Montgomery’s response rate was much higher and that was when we had to fill out a paper form and mail it, now it’s even easier to do online. Please challenge friends and neighbors to respond. Ask your friends to ask their friends. You will be making a difference. Our count directs federal dollars our way to support hospitals, roads, libraries, and much more!
You can track this yourself. Check out the 2020 Census response rate map to stay up to date on our community’s response to the 2020 Census. This interactive map tracks the percentage of households that have responded to the 2020 Census in each state, county, city, town, etc.
To track Montgomery’s progress, first pick New Jersey on State drop-down, then select Montgomery under ‘Town and Township’. Compare us to neighboring towns!
Challenge your friends and neighbors to take the census! Tell others that it is safe and easy to respond to the census. (Your personal identifiable info is anonymized and secure and will NOT be released for 72 years.) Find your code in the mailer/postcard you received and go to my2020census.gov It takes 5 to 10 minutes. Paper questionnaires have also now been mailed. If you have questions, call 1-844-330-2020.
LOCAL PARKS TO REOPEN SATURDAY
UPDATE: Somerset County Parks, including Skillman Park & Somerset County Sourland Park will join Montgomery Twp. Parks to reopen Saturday, 5/02. The County Park Commission has posted restrictions on use and required social distancing measures in light of covid-19 risks, at https://www.co.somerset.nj.us/Home/Components/News/News/3749/17.
Montgomery Township will reopen local parks and pathways effective sunrise Saturday May 2nd. This opening is consistent with Wednesday’s announcement by Governor Murphy that state parks will reopen at that time. This decision, as with the decision to close the parks on April 7, was made based on the unanimous recommendation of the township administration, police, and health departments.
Importantly, physical distancing requirements remain in effect throughout the parks. The continued availability of park access is predicated on the adherence to safety and health guidelines. No social gatherings or sports will be permitted. Playground equipment will remain closed to prevent children from congregating in close proximity. Please wear masks and maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others, except among those living in the same household. Police will patrol the parks to ensure social distancing rules are observed. Remember to treat community members with respect and consideration. If you are concerned about something you see in the parks or elsewhere, call the police department. Thank you.
