In Spring 2020, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Montgomery Township Health Department became one of the first health department in New Jersey to be accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). To receive accreditation, the Department had undergone a rigorous, multi-faceted, peer-reviewed assessment process over several years to ensure it met or exceeded a set of quality standards and measures. The mission of the voluntary national accreditation program is to improve and protect the health of the public by advancing and ultimately transforming the quality and performance of the nation’s state, Tribal, local, and territorial public health departments.
PHAB‘s initial accreditation assesses a health department’s capacity to carry out the ten Essential Public Health Services; manage an effective health department; and, maintain strong and effective communications with the governing entity.
