VACCINE CLINIC AT MONTGOMERY SHOPPING CENTER TOMORROW

Would you like to be fully vaccinated by Memorial Day?

On Thursday May 13, from 4pm to 7pm, The Montgomery Township Health Department will offer the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine free to adults 18 and older at a clinic located in the Montgomery Shopping Center, just outside the Walgreens. Appointments are optional. Access the Montgomery Township website for a full list of upcoming vaccine clinics.

Because the Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires only one shot, recipients will qualify as fully vaccinated two weeks later, or just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the traditional kick-off to summer.

COUNTY VACCINE PROGRAM INCLUDES TEENS OF 16 & 17

The CDC is expected to expand eligibility for the Pfizer vaccine to include 12- to 15-year-olds imminently. Meantime, Pfizer already has the only vaccine approved for teens ages 16 and 17.

  • Friday, May 14: Somerset County Senior Wellness Center, 876 E Main St in Bridgewater from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Pfizer 1st Doses/Moderna 2nd Doses)

In addition, Somerset County will hold two drive-thru clinics on Friday, May 14. Appointments are recommended but not required through https://covidvaccine.nj.gov/:

  • Friday, May 14: Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Moderna)
  • Friday, May 14: Rutgers Plaza, 940 Easton Avenue in Somerset (Franklin), from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. (J&J)

FREE RIDES FOR VACCINE APPOINTMENTS

United Way and Lyft have partnered to offer free transportation to vaccination appointments through a dial 2-1-1 service. They can accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, and multiple languages.

2ND GRADER WINS ARBOR DAY CONTEST

The annual Montgomery Arbor Day seed contest was won this year by Claire Battaglia, age 7 and a second grader at Orchard Hill Elementary School. The contest is organized by Montgomery Township’s Shade Tree Committee and held at the Mary Jacobs Library every April.

Claire correctly named the Bur Oak (Mossycup Oak) tree as the source of
the seeds. There were 227 Bur Oak acorns in the jar. Claire’s guess of 210 was the
closest. As shown above, Larry Koplik, Chair of the Shade Tree Committee, presented Claire with her prize, the Eyewitness Book on Trees.
