TODAY’S COVID-19 CASE SUMMARY
There have been six (6) new deaths in Montgomery Township and nineteen (19) new cases in Montgomery and Rocky Hill since our last report on Monday, 1-4-21. Detailed case report at the end of this ebulletin.
SIX COVID DEATHS AT STONEBRIDGE
Six COVID-19 related deaths have been newly reported out of the Stonebridge at Montgomery continuing care facility, raising the total number of COVID deaths to 15 for Montgomery and Rocky Hill.
Stonebridge is one of more than 400 continuing care facilities in New Jersey dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks. The Montgomery Health Department is working with Stonebridge management on infection control and providing other forms of support. All Stonebridge residents and staff are currently being tested weekly for COVID-19, in line with state guidelines. The recent deaths occurred during the holiday period.
“The news of six more COVID deaths at Stonebridge is extremely sad, and we are engaged with Stonebridge management to address the situation,” said Township Administrator Donato Nieman. “On behalf of the township, I offer condolences to the family members of these lost members of our community.”
REORGANIZATION MEETING THURSDAY TO SELECT LEADERS
The Montgomery Township Committee will hold its annual Reorganization Meeting on Thursday January 7 at 7pm, for the first time via Zoom. Newly elected Township Committeewoman Shelly L. Bell will take her seat for the first time, and two of the five-member governing body will be selected to serve as Mayor and Deputy Mayor for 2021.
Customarily, members of the Township Committee give addresses regarding priorities for the township in the new year.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting by computer or telephone, as described on the township website.
RECREATION DEPT. VIRTUAL WINTER PROGRAMS ANNOUNCED
The Montgomery Township Recreation Department has just released a list of virtual winter programs, available online, with registration scheduled to begin at 8 AM Monday January 11.
“Recognizing the challenges families are experiencing right now, we have worked hard to provide families with safe and rewarding activities to help keep children’s minds active,” said Recreation Department Director Karen Zimmerman.
Programs include children’s lessons for chess, piano, drawing, cooking, and coding. Contact the Recreation Department at 609-466-3023 with questions.
SENIOR FREEZE TAX DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FEB. 1
The filing deadline for the New Jersey Senior Tax Freeze applications has been extended to February 1, 2021. The program provides qualifying seniors with a property tax reimbursement to help seniors afford to remain in their homes. RECYCLE CHRISTMAS TREES!
The Montgomery Township Department of Public Works will start curbside Christmas tree collection Monday January 11. Don’t delay putting out your tree because each neighborhood will receive only one visit.
Trees must be free of ornaments and tinsel and will be chipped for use as mulch. New Jersey cautions that it is not permissible to burn Christmas trees as they produce an air quality hazard. Additional information is available on the township website.

649 confirmed and probable cases for Montgomery and Rocky Hill in total, of which:
– 595 presumed recovered a
– 39 currently ill
– 15 fatalities
a “Presumed recovered” means cases that have met the criteria for discontinuation of isolation. A minimum of 10 days from diagnosis, or three days after symptoms resolve, whichever is longer. This definition represents a change from earlier in the pandemic before the CDC provided a definition.
